Meet Liz

Hi, I’m Liz Clarkson

Still Inspired!

I work three days per week at Blackburn North.  I am taking new patients again and assure regularity of ongoing appointments.

Having first worked with children and their traumas,  I later moved into working solely with adults who had traumatic childhoods.  This began my life-long commitment for providing psychotherapy to adults with complex lives.  Early on I worked in public hospitals and a psychiatric inpatient ward for many years, which provided a depth of appreciation for depression, anxiety, childhood abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, grief and bereavement and perinatal issues and the importance of good communication with treating team.

I  assess your individual situation and your treatment requirements are discussed together.  My preference is for insight-oriented therapy (psychoanalytic) but other treatment modalities are available to suit your needs.

Psychotherapy requires thoroughness, complete attention, all at a manageable pace.  It is important to think about your personal situation when making a commitment to regular psychotherapy.  Who will support you emotionally in this decision?  Do you have sufficient time and resources to devote to starting a longer term psychotherapy plan?  All of these matters can be discussed with me.

A Community Attitude

I am  a founding member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association and a member of the Centre for Perinatal Psychology.

In 2018, I was invited to be a co-facilitator in the ‘Work Ready’ program with the GoGirls Foundation and continue to co-facilitate this program and support their funding raising efforts to support women at risk.  The program focuses on women who have been long term unemployed regain their confidence to return to the workforce and enhance their independence.
